                    Useful Websites for Multilingual Leaflets and Information

                            Baby Friendly Initiative (UNICEF)

                    Range of leaflets in different languages on baby feeding. The information is in English, Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Lithuanian, Mirpuri, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Roumanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese and Welsh.



                            Be breast aware (Department of Health)

                    This leaflet encourages women to become more aware of their bodies generally and to get to know their own breasts. This is an important issue for all women in their mid-twenties and onwards, as learning how their breasts look and feel at different times will help women know what is normal for them and to recognise any irregular changes.  Available in almost 20 languages.



                            Blood Pressure Association

                    The Blood Pressure Association has translated its main blood pressure booklet "Introducing high blood pressure", which highlights the main facts about blood pressure and lowering it, into the 32 most common non-English languages in the UK.  Also linked here is their translation of their "Love your heart: A South Asian guide to controlling your blood pressure" into Bengali, Gujerati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.



                            Breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening (NHS)

                    Leaflets in up to 20 languages





                            Centre for Disease Control and Prevention

                    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based in the USA, is dedicated to protecting health and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease, injury, and disability. The website contains a wealth of health information in several different languages.



                            Chinese National Healthy Living Centre

                    Information around the health service, counselling, information and advice for healthier lives through receiving practical encouragement and lifestyle information




                            Cot Death

                    NHS Sefton has translated the "Reduce the risk of cot death" leaflet, produced by FSID and the Department of Health, into Polish, Portuguese, simplified Chinese and Latvian.



                    Translations are also available of the advice card ��Sleep safe, sleep sound, share a room with me�� - produced by FSID - in English, Kurdish, Polish, Chinese, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, French, Russian, Arabic and Portuguese.



                            Department of Health publications in other languages

                    This page lists DH publications and resources that have been translated into other languages and are available electronically from this website. There are other DH publications, not listed here, that have foreign language translations that are only available in hard copy. For details of these you will need to contact the DH publications centre.



                        Diabetes UK

                    Diabetes UK is devoted to the care and treatment of people with diabetes in order to improve the quality of life for people with the condition. They provide information in Bengali, Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Welsh



                         Drug Education

                    DrugScope information leaflets in Bengali, Kurdish, Chinese, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, French, Arabic and Somali:




                    Information in languages other than English and for ethnic groups 



                         Health Information Translations

                    Information sheets on numerous health conditions and giving health advice in Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Marshallese, Portuguese Brazilian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. Each sheet also has the English translation. The website is a collaboration of health education specialists from health systems in Central Ohio.



                         Health in my Language

                    Information about health and health related services in Scotland which have been translated into 14 different languages, including British Sign Language.  Supported by NHS24, NHS Health Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland.



                         Health Translations Directory

                    This directory links to online multilingual health resources from Australian government departments, peak health bodies, hospitals, community health centres and welfare agencies.


                         Health Scotland

                    Health Scotland publications and other documents available online. Search by topic (including sexual health), and/or language and publication type.


                         HERON health and social care information

                    This NHS website from Norfolk provides a comprehensive and searchable source of available health and social care information in a range of community languages and formats, e.g. audio, Braille, video and information for people with learning difficulties.



                            Multicultural communication

                    Information about health issues and health services to people who speak languages other than English



                            Multilingual Community Rights Shop

                    The Multi-Lingual Advice Shop is concerned with the delivery of multi-lingual advice and information in the following areas: welfare benefits/rights, housing and homelessness, immigration, nationality and asylum, debt, consumer, employment, education, family and relationships, community care and health (including drugs, alcohol, mental health, and HIV/AIDS), disability rights


                             Mypil.net: Oral Health Patient Information Leaflets

                    An initiative by Department of Dental Public Health at Leeds University to make available oral health patient information Leaflets in multiple languages.  Languages currently include Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali and Russian as well as English.



                            NAM (HIV and AIDS)

                    Leaflets and booklets on various aspects of living with HIV/AIDS in Arabic, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.


                            National Library of Medicine (US)

                    Health information in multiple languages


                            Naz Project London

                    Naz Project London provides sexual health and HIV prevention and support services to the South Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, Horn of African and Latin American communities in London. (Leaflets available to order but not download)


                            NHS Choices

                    NHS Choices has links to health information in other languages provided by other websites.  Topic coverage differs from language to language.  Languages include: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Gujarati, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Somali, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu.

                            Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust

                    A  searchable database of quality approved health information in other languages. Search by language or keyword.


                       The Refugee Council

                    Provides advice and assistance to asylum seekers and refugees.  Includes a factsheet giving answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about sexual health, in English, Amharic, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Dari, Farsi, French, Korean, Kurdish (Sorani), Pushto, Somali, Tamil, Tigrignia, Urdu.


                            Royal College of Psychiatry

                    A range of leaflets relating to mental health in 14 languages and British Sign Language




                    The NHS stop smoking website contains links to several other language guides on this page.



                                Stamford (California) Health Library-multilingual information

                    Health information in up to 60 languages. 




                    "Fun First Foods" (2010) from the Health in My Language website, from NHS Scotland.  Available in English, Chinese and Polish. 


                      Women��s  Health Information

                    An Australian site with online factsheets on various topics in various languages.
